High above the North Hill of Calgary is Thorncliffe, a community of 8,800 north of McKnight Blvd NW. Thorncliffe Calgary is situated between Centre St N and 14 ST NW and reaches as far north as 64 Ave NW. It was built in the mid-1950s by a progressive company called Spyhill Developments. This company began construction even before the land was annexed to the city and pioneered the concept of installing utility lines in advance of building. The build-out of Thorncliffe continued into the 1960s. The neighbourhood has a large senior population. It is often referred to as Thorncliffe Greenview.
