On a high plateau on the western edge of Calgary is the scenic community of Strathcona Park. It was the first residential community to be built on “Broadcast Hill”, just south of one of the city’s first television stations. Strathcona Park is south of Bow Trail SW, north of the Strathcona Ravine and west to nearby 85 St SW.
Home construction began in Strathcona Park in the early 1980s, with home designs that take advantage of the hilly topography in the area. The natural ravine and surrounding aspen groves were preserved with additional parkland and greenspace constructed to enhance the natural surroundings

The Strathcona Park housing market offers a variety of moderately priced housing options, from townhomes, apartments and single family dwellings. Some homes have wonderful views of the city to the east and north to the Bow River Valley. Downtown is accessible via Bow Trail or 17 Ave SW, with shuttle buses available to take commuters to LRT Stations at Christie Park or at 69 St SW.
Pathways along the ravine provide outdoor recreation, with outdoor skating rinks and soccer fields located at the community centre. Indoor recreation is just a kilometre or two away at Westside Recreation Centre. There is a pedestrian bridge across Sarcee Trail SW which takes residents east to Optimist Athletic Park where there are two indoor hockey rinks and several baseball fields.

There is a shopping plaza along 69 St SW in the Strathcona Park community with a grocery store, bank, neighbourhood pub, coffee shop, clothing store and specialty shops, with more shopping just south of the community at West Hills Shopping Centre.
Schools designated to Strathcona Park include Olympic Heights Elementary, Westgate (French Immersion), John Costello and St. Michael’s Catholic Elementary School. Senior high school students attend nearby Ernest Manning or take transit to St. Mary’s Catholic High School.
