The historic community of Ramsay, once a working class neighbourhood, is mere minutes east of downtown. Located between the CPR tracks on the north to 25 Ave SE, between the Elbow River and Elbow River escarpment to 11 St SE.

There is an industrial area in this mixed-use community with luxury homes on the western edge along the ridge known as Scotsman’s Hill. Founded at the turn of the 20th Century, Ramsay appears on early maps as Grandview, a community built with small cottages for industrial workers. Ramsay, with a population of 2,100 people, is a neighbourhood in transition. Single family detached homes account for 50% of all dwellings with semi-attached, condos, homes with suites and a high number of rental units. The average price in this inner-city South East neighbourhood is $785,000 to $845,000.

Ramsay Community Features

The Shamrock Hotel is located on the south side of Ramsay, a neighbourhood institution and landmark. Ramsay has new eateries that have sprung up along Spiller Rd SE. Buyers are attracted to Ramsay for its historic elements, eclectic houses, proximity to downtown and emerging arts vibe.

Ramsay School, an imposing sandstone structure, still functions as an elementary school. The neighbourhood is an outdoor rink, toboggan hill and a wonderful green space along the escarpment hill, a popular spot for special occasion photo opportunities. Streets on the hill are blocked off and security is put in place to accommodate crowds during the Calgary Stampede.
