The community of Lake Bonavista in Calgary’s southeast quadrant is located between Macleod Trail and Bow Bottom Trail, south of Anderson Road SE.  This unique community has the distinction of being the first suburban community in Canada to be built around a completely man-made lake.  

Developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Lake Bonavista is 52-acres in size, large enough for water craft and swimming, and includes a man made hill with a waterfall.  Maintenance of the lake is paid for by the home owner’s association.

Homes for sale in Lake Bonavista are of varying sizes and prices.  The estates area around and to the west of the lake features homes that can be 2,000 to 3,000 square feet in size.  Many have been renovated since they were first built circa 1969 and updated with modern layouts and interior finishes.  Prices can be in the vicinity of $2,485,000 to $2,995,000.  Homes to the north and east of the lake, as well as to the west of Bonaventure Dr SE, are smaller bungalow, two-storey or split-level homes with an average price of $785,000 to $845,000.  All homes have access to the lake, beach area and park amenities with a home owner’s association membership.

Lake Bonavista Community Features

Homes built around the lake are equipped with private docks and the park around the lake has tennis courts, canoe rental and a club house/change room.  Lake Bonavista has mature trees on every street and is close to shopping.  The Lake Bonavista Promenade is a small indoor mall next to the park entrance and more shopping can be found along Macleod Trail, including Southcentre Mall, located to the north of the community.

Trico Recreation Centre is just minutes away offering fitness, aquatics and many family programs.  There are several public and separate schools within walkable distance in Lake Bonavista and downtown commuters can catch the LRT at nearby Anderson Station.
