To the west of Nose Hill is the community of Hawkwood, Calgary. It was built in the early 1980s and the neighbourhood design includes an above average number of cul-de-sacs. Built on a northward slope, many Hawkwood homes for sale offer views of the Bow River Valley and the mountains to the west.
Hawkwood is located between John Laurie Blvd NW on the south side, Country Hills Blvd NW on the north, with Nose Hill Dr NW to the west and Sarcee Trail to the east. The name of the community derives from the Hawkwood family, original owners of the land in the area.

Construction began in this area in 1981. Hawkwood real estate is comprised of many estate-sized homes in excess of 2,200 sq. ft., as well as moderately priced bungalow and split-level models, and a small number of low-rise condos, town houses and adult-only communities. Homes in Hawkwood are priced on average between $535,000 and $595,000.
The Hawkwood community association is quite active with many parks, sports fields, pathways, an outdoor rink, skate park, tennis and basketball courts. The population is nearly 10,000, with an average resident age of 44 years.

Hawkwood, Calgary is 25-minutes to downtown via Crowchild Trail. There is an LRT Station at Nosehill Dr NW and Crowchild Trail. Stoney Trail NW, a few minutes north, provides the most direct route to the Calgary International Airport, and Queen Elizabeth II Highway. Crowfoot Village with grocery stores, restaurants, retail, book stores, sporting goods and medical services is just next door.
Hawkwood Elementary school is located in the community. Other designated schools include Varsity Acres (French), St. Mario Goretti and St. Luke Catholic Elementary Schools, F.E. Osborne Junior High, Branton (French), St. Jean Brebeuf and Madeleine d’Houet Catholic Junior High Schools, Sir Winston Churchill and William Aberhart Senior High Schools, and St. Francis Catholic Senior High School.
