Recent Redevelopment has made Marda Loop one of Calgary's Trendiest Communities
One of Calgary's more vibrant neighbourhoods, Marda Loop is an inner city community that has become a popular shopping destination and a desirable place to live. It is named after Marc and Mada Jenkins, owners of the Marda Theater that opened in 1953 but later demolished in 1990.
Situated along 33rd and 34th Avenues, between 19th St. SW and Crowchild Trail along Garrison Gate SW, Marda Loop has more than 100 trendy shops, restaurants and boutiques. Historically, Marda Loop has been the center of business activity for the neighbouring SW communiites of Altadore/River Park, South Calgary, Killarney/Glengarry, Richmond Park/Knobhill and Currie Barracks.
For the last 7 to 10 years, substantial redevelopment in the area resulted in an upsurge in residential and business activity. As older homes paved the way for newer infills and higher density condominiums, the population in these surrounding neighbourhoods has significantly increased.
Marda Loop is becoming a trendier place with the convergence of business demographics and higher income households. A shift towards a younger and more dynamic population is evidenced in emerging new events and upbeat facilities in this community. Calgary real estate
