Desirable Loft Living in Condominiums, Warehouses and Industrial Buildings
Lofts, referring to attics or the upper storey of a building directly below the roof, have now become a category in the real estate industry. Lofts may be an attic loft, a loft apartment or commercial loft. An attic loft can easily be converted to a functional living space. Lofts are generally found in core urban centres of major populated cities.
A loft apartment is an expansive adaptable open space converted for residential dwelling from some other use, usually light industrial. Loft apartments or loft condominiums are often built from warehouses or industrial buildings. The term warehouse-to-loft conversions refers to the development of condominiums or apartments from industrial buildings.
Brand new buildings with loft-style residences are classified as “soft lofts” buildings, while residential or work/live lofts converted from industrial buildings are classified as “hard Lofts.”
The most common characteristics of lofts are soaring ceilings with exposed ducts and pipes, floor-to-ceiling windows, stained cement flooring, metal staircase and handrails, great room floor plan, exposed interior brick, stainless steel kitchen appliances, modern furnishings and located near downtown.
