After being listed for only one day, the home of Jarome Iginla, former team captain of Calgary Flames, sold for full listing price of $3,995,000. The 5,000 sq. ft. modern home is nestled on a privately gated 11,000 sq. ft. lot with outstanding curb appeal on Britannia Drive SW in Calgary's desirable inner city community of Elboya.

Iginla's home was listed Monday April 22, 2013, and was sold the following day Tuesday, according to the listing agent, Donna Rooney. The home was designed for family entertainment, with great layout, natural light throughout, formal living room with gas fireplace, a main floor office, huge dining room and fabulous wine room. It has an expansive great room that opens to an informal dining and gourmet kitchen with large pantry and tons of cabinetry. An open staircase leads to 4 spacious ensuited bedrooms. It offers fabulous views from the master wing, with lavish ensuite, sitting room, great walk-in closet and fireplace. The property is privately gated with great curb appeal and rear yard with built-in sport court.

Rooney described Calgary as having a solid luxury home market, with strong demand for similar homes as Iginla's. Calgary is one of the strongest markets for luxury homes in Canada, according to Sotheby’s International Realty Canada's recent report. For a luxury single-family home in Calgary, the baseline entry point is reported to be $2 million - the same as in the Toronto market.

The year-to-date Calgary MLS sales reported by the Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) on April 17  was 204 for properties more than $1 million, an increase from last year's 140 for the same period. For 2012, Calgary had record-breaking luxury home sales of 544 - the highest record in the city, surpassing the previous high of 458 sales in 2007.

According to the Sotheby’s report, the most desirable Calgary luxury home neighbourhoods are: Mount Royal, Springbank Hill, Britannia, Aspen, Bel-Aire, Elbow Valley, Elbow Park, Westside and Inner-city Southwest.

Prior to the Iginla home sale, Calgary's 5 most expensive MLS homes sales ever were:
Aspen Woods at $10.35 million; Elbow Park/Glencoe at $3.64 million; Elbow Park/Glencoe at $3.21 million; Elbow Park/Glencoe at $2.98 million; and Eau Claire at $2.58 million. (Source CREB)
