The 200-acre exclusive community of Currie Barracks is the third and last phase of the redevelopment of CFB (Canadian Forces Base), with an estimated number of 3,200 residential units at full development. Currie Barracks was transformed from a former military base to an integration of a rich mix of land uses. Aside from being residential, the integrated community has offices, retail, recreational and institutional spaces.
Currie Barracks has various amenities, including the 225,000 ft2 of retail area on the European-inspired “High Street”, heritage buildings, monuments, schools and 23 acres of open spaces and parks. In 2010, two commemorative parks: Victoria Cross Park and Valour Park were established at Currie Barracks to pay tribute to Canada's military. Victoria Cross Park highlights several plaques to commemorate the 16 Canadian recipients of Second World War's prestigious Victoria Cross. The adjacent Valour Park highlights three huge bronze statues representing the Canadian armed forces' three branches - the Air Force, the Army and the Navy.
