There once was a windmill at the top of the hill in the small southwest community of Pump Hill, which provided well water for the market garden owned by the Patton family in the early 20th century. It was a landmark, and it stood as a sentinel while the city grew around the gentle hillside. The community was the last to be developed in the 1980s and 90s, when some of the small acreages were subdivided and luxury homes appeared beside older homesteads. The windmill was eventually dismantled and preserved at Fort Calgary and the land sold and developed, but the name has persisted.

About Pump Hill Real Estate
Pump Hill is located between Southland Dr SW and 90 Ave SW to the south and north, and 14 St and 19 St SW east to west. There is a 55-plus adult community with semi-detached “villa” homes along 19 St SW. There are executive-style homes on the south side of the community constructed in the 1970s.
Most recently, luxury estate homes were built in the heart of the community on both sides of 96 Ave SW. Calgary’s most expensive home, assessed at $20 million dollars, is in the heart of Pump Hill. It’s a 22,000 square foot home with steel frame construction and sits on several acres. Homes in Pump Hill are in the higher price range, some between $5 and $10 million.
Pump Hill Community Features
The Calgary Jewish Community Centre and a synagogue are located on the north east end of the Pump Hill community, with plans on the books to expand to vacant land next door.
