Above the Elbow River escarpment in southwest Calgary lies the community of Britannia. It is situated to the west of Elbow Drive, north of 50 Ave SW and the Calgary Golf and Country Club. This small community of less than 1,000 people was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910 and built in the 1960s. It was planned as a more elite community and remains so today. Homes are built on large lots and more than half of the original homes have been replaced by large luxury homes. Residents enjoy nightly walks along bluffs overlooking the Elbow River valley on the west side of the community.
